Located in Sharon, Mississippi, Sharon Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church is a Christ-centered congregation dedicated to worship, discipleship, fellowship, and service. We strive to be a welcoming church where individuals and families can grow in faith, build meaningful relationships, and serve their community. Through worship, outreach, and ministry, we seek to share the love and hope of Jesus Christ with all.
Rev. Tony D. Henderson, DMin, was born in Los Angeles, California, and raised in Canton, Mississippi. A 1994 graduate of Canton High School, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Religion from Mt. Olive College, a Master of Divinity from Hood Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from Payne Theological Seminary.
Rev. Henderson preached his trial sermon on September 3, 1995, at St. Thomas A.M.E. Zion Church in Norfolk, Virginia, under the mentorship of Dr. G. L. Scott. He was ordained Deacon in 2001 and Elder in 2002. His pastoral journey has included St. Matthews in Trenton, NC; St. Mark in Whiteville, NC; Mt. Lebanon in Elizabeth City, NC; Hood Temple in Richmond, VA; and Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church in Denver, CO. He also served as Presiding Elder of the Denver District from 2017–2026 before being appointed Pastor of Sharon Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in October 2025.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Rev. Henderson received numerous honors, including the Navy Achievement Medal, two Good Conduct Awards, and three Sea Service Deployment Awards. His commitment to service extends beyond the church through civic and leadership roles, including Past President of the Hood Theological Seminary Alumni Association, Elizabeth City Housing Authority Commissioner, and NAACP Religious Affairs Director for Colorado.

Meet Our Minister of Music
Dr. Ernest Brown Jr.
Dr. Ernest Brown Jr. serves as Minister of Music at Sharon Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, bringing his gifts, experience, and passion for music to the ministry. Through his leadership, he is committed to creating meaningful worship experiences that glorify God and strengthen the congregation through music.
Guided by Psalm 37:23, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord,” Dr. Brown continues to use his musical gifts in service to God and the church community.
“To God Be the Glory for All the Things He Has Done.”

The A.M.E. Zion Church
Sharon Chapel is a congregation of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, a historic denomination known as “The Freedom Church.” The A.M.E. Zion Church was founded in 1796 and was incorporated in 1821. With a rich heritage of faith, education, community service, and social justice, the A.M.E. Zion Church continues its mission of proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ while serving communities around the world.
